Overview
Undersheriff Dalia Rodriguez emigrated from El Salvador in the early 1980s and became a proud U.S. citizen in 1997. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from San Jose State University and has completed numerous courses in Public Administration. Additionally, she attended the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and is a graduate of FBINA Class 281.
With over 27 years of invaluable law enforcement experience, Undersheriff Rodriguez began her career in 1997 after graduating from the Basic Police Training Academy SB16 at the South Bay Training Academy in Evergreen. In her role as a deputy, she patrolled various areas, including the unincorporated regions of the Eastside Foothills, Central San Jose, unincorporated areas of West Valley, and the contract cities of Saratoga, Cupertino, and Los Altos Hills. Her dedication to the community was evident as she served as a member of the Sheriff's Community Oriented Policing Unit and initiated the first Sheriff's Youth Leadership Symposium.
As a sergeant, Undersheriff Rodriguez held several leadership roles, including Investigative Services Detective, Court Security, Internal Affairs-County Counsel Investigator, and Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) member. She was promoted to lieutenant in 2008 and served as the South County Patrol Assistant Division Commander. In 2011, she was selected to serve as Director of the Justice Training Center, she oversaw the Basic Police Academy, led the establishment and certification of the first Board of State and Community Corrections Adult Correctional Academy, and hosted the first Women in Law Enforcement Symposium. Promoted to captain in 2013, she oversaw the Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office and later managed the Civil Warrants and Special Enforcement Divisions. Additionally, she served as Commander of both the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) and the Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (SERT).
In December 2020, Undersheriff Rodriguez was promoted to Assistant Sheriff, overseeing the Support Services Bureau. This bureau plays a crucial role in public safety and encompasses four distinct divisions: Special Enforcement, Stanford University, Training and Professional Development, and the Sheriff's Protective Services Division.
In January 2025, Undersheriff Rodriguez was promoted to her current position. Under the general direction of the Sheriff, she is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff's Office. Undersheriff Rodriguez oversees a workforce of more than 1,800 sworn and professional staff members, providing exceptional law enforcement services to a county with a population of 1.9 million residents.
As Undersheriff, Rodriguez remains dedicated to fostering an agency grounded in respect, collaboration, and strong community partnerships, ensuring that the Sheriff's Office moves forward with purpose and focusing on service to all.
