Candidate selection process
State law and Peace Office Standards and Training (POST) regulation require that candidates for a career with a law enforcement agency meet specific selection and training standards. The normal selection process for non-sworn job classifications is as follows.
Application
Applicants must complete and submit an Online Application through the Santa Clara County job portal using a NEOGOV online account.
All communications about the recruitment process will be by email. To ensure that you receive all appropriate notifications, check your spam blocker and / or junk mail setting so that you can receive email from governmentjobs.com and the County of Santa Clara.
Applications will not be accepted after the posting deadline. It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. Applications may be rejected if incomplete.
The candidate will receive an email acknowledging receipt of the application; this does not mean the application and/or required documents are complete.
Once an applicant meets the minimum requirements, a team member from Santa Clara County Human Resource will notify the applicant and provide further instructions for the next step.
Panel Interview(s)
The panel interview will assess your personal accomplishments, job motivation, interpersonal skills, continuous learning orientation, experience, education, and communication skills. Candidates who pass the panel interview will proceed to the background process.
Pre-background interview
The applicant will meet with a Background Investigator. The Background Investigator will use POST (PEACE Officer and Public Safety Standards) dimensions to determine if the applicant will progress to the next step.
Background interview
Applicants will complete waivers to enter into the background process. Once the waivers are complete, a Live Scan fingerprint and polygraph examination will be scheduled.
Polygraph
The Polygraph is conducted to confirm information obtained during the selection process.
