Classification
The primary role of the Classification Unit is to maintain a safe and secure environment for the incarcerated individuals, jail staff, and our community. Our Unit uses a classification system to assign incarcerated individuals a security level and a housing unit. The classification system determines their risk of misconduct and other factors, such as escape risk and program needs. Housing units have varying degrees of security. The Classification Unit’s objective is to house each incarcerated individual in the least restrictive manner possible. The Classification Unit continuously assesses each individual equitably, fairly and consistently until they are released from our custody. As a result, we actively reduce the number of escapes, suicides, and assaults within our jail facilities.
