Honoring fallen heroes at annual Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office held its annual Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony on May 15 at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters in San Jose, a solemn tradition dedicated to honoring law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The event brought together law enforcement agencies from across Santa Clara County, along with the families of the fallen, to pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who gave their lives while serving their communities.

This year’s ceremony featured a 42-second moment of silence initiated by County 911 Communications, a powerful tribute to the 42 officers who have died in the line of duty throughout the County’s 175-year history.
Representatives from each participating agency read the names of those lost from their departments, ensuring their memories live on.

Sheriff Robert Jonsen delivered remarks emphasizing the enduring legacy of service, bravery, and commitment embodied by these heroes.
“On this day, we gathered together in deep remembrance for the fallen heroes who gave their lives protecting and serving our community of Santa Clara County,” said Sheriff Jonsen. “Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication will never be forgotten.”
The ceremony also included a ceremonial honor guard presentation, a riderless horse, a 21-gun salute, and a floral wreath display serving as symbol of honor and remembrance.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office remains steadfast in its commitment to honor the memory of these fallen officers and ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.
“The ceremony was not only a tribute to their memory,” added Sheriff Jonsen, “but a promise that their legacy will live on through each of us who continue to serve our Santa Clara County community.”
We extend our deepest appreciation to the families and to all who joined us in this annual tradition. Their memory lives on in our daily service and in the hearts of a grateful community.
