Deputy Christopher Velasco named 2024 City of Saratoga Officer of the Year

Deputy Christopher Velasco has consistently demonstrated excellence, professionalism, and dedication in serving Saratoga residents. He was just named Officer of the Year by Mayor Yan Zhao during the State of the City address on October 5.

Deputy Velasco began his career with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office in 2015, as a Correctional Deputy. Two years later, he completed the Enforcement Academy and became a sworn Patrol Deputy. Since 2022, he has been assigned to the West Valley Patrol Division.

Known for his exceptional leadership, quick decision-making, and commitment to building positive relationships between law enforcement and the community, Deputy Velasco has made significant strides this year. He has completed 60+ criminal reports, issued 34 vehicle citations, and made numerous arrests, increasing community safety and security.

Deputy Velasco’s most notable arrest was in April. Using the city’s license plate readers, he found a stolen car and discovered the driver was wearing a bulletproof vest and had a loaded handgun. During the vehicle search, more firearms were uncovered. Deputy Velasco’s investigation revealed the suspect had a history of weapons charges and warrants for firearms and robbery charges. This successful arrest is one example of his attention to detail and his mission to keep Saratoga safe.

Deputy Velasco is also an active participant in community engagement programs, fostering trust and public safety awareness. His proactive policing and outreach efforts are an inspiration to both his peers and the community he serves.
