In-Custody Death - 10-27-24
An incarcerated man with underlying health conditions died while under doctors’ care at Valley Medical Center in San Jose. On Sunday, October 27, 2024, medical staff pronounced the 67-year-old deceased at 5:27 p.m.
The incarcerated person had been in custody at the Elmwood Correctional Facility since September 30, 2024, on charges including felony elder abuse, grand theft, and fraud. On October 1, 2024, the man was taken to Valley Medical Center for chest pains where his condition later worsened, ultimately leading to his death.
Following standard protocol for in-custody deaths, the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit opened an investigation and reported no evidence of foul play. The decedent’s identity is not being released at this time. Please contact the Media Relations Unit for further updates.
